Plantation drive on a very large scale was organized by Birla Open Minds International School Pampore in collaboration with directorate of social forestry J&K govt. on 16/11/21. The importance of planting trees was highlighted by the speakers before the actual drive. The function was presided over by Mr. Abdul Aziz Mir Chairman BML Welfare Trust. On this occasion Campus director Birla Open Minds Sheikh Gayas ud Din welcomed all the dignitaries and shared his views about the importance of plantation for the survival of life. Mr. Mehraj ud din Malik Regional director Social forestry Kashmir made the gathering aware about the various initiatives launched by the department towards afforestation. Regional director praised the school management for their cooperation and enthusiasm displayed from time to time. Mr. Shabir faculty of Harvard University threw light on the pollution caused by texting messages etc. which leads to global warming. Therefore he emphasized on planting more and more trees. Dr Raja Muzzafar social activist and environmentalist emphasized about the need of involvement of young generation into the preservation of environment and ecosystem. Mr Haji Manzoor Ahmed Wangnoo Chairman Bilaliya Educational institute presented the Islamic perspective of plantation. He also praised the world class infrastructure of Birla Open Minds School Pampore .Mr Waseem Farooq Mir DY Conservator of forests environmental advisor to chief secretary J&K Govt. presented his valuable views regarding the importance of plantation .During the interaction he expressed the essence of such drives to sensitize our students towards environment and laid emphasis on conservation of nature and natural resources in order to ensure transformation of legacy to future generations. He also stressed to introspect and to raise collective conscience among students with respect to protection and conservation of these resources for making life sustainable on earth. Manzoor Ahmed Bhat (D.F.O) social forestry also put forth his valuable suggestions. The other dignitaries present were Mr Ishtiyaq Mohiudin Tehsildar Pampore, Mr Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir SDPO Pampore, Mr. Nisar Yonus Trustee and Ms. Sakeena Vice-principal BOMIS. Mr. G M Lone, General Secretary BML welfare trust while presenting vote of thanks assured that the school in future will be a role model so far as afforestation is concerned and the school will be a green campus in real terms. He further asserted that the school has a plan of planting 15000 saplings in coming times. He thanked all the guests who spared their valuable time to make the drive highly successful. He also thanked the school management especially the BOMIS faculty. The function culminated with the plantation of trees by guests and attendees.
